From Wall Street to the seaside – exciting news from Bodegas Urium
Exciting news from Bodegas Urium this weekend. Less than ten years after launching their Jerez bodega, they have bought an historic bodega in Sanlúcar and plan to become manzanilleros too.
The bodega is the old Bodega San Francisco, down in the bottom of the town close to the water. Whilst until recently it was a restaurant, Currito, in the distant past it was the bodega where the famous Manzanilla El Rocío was aged. It was clearly meant to be: the old home of El Rocío being brought back to life by another Rocío!
There’s a little work to do before they can lay down the new solera, but the basic shell is all there and there’s also fantastic space for tastings and events. And judging from the family’s excitement, they won’t drag their heels in getting started. Watch this space!
